Review | 9394 Magazine Launch at the House of Vans

After a year in the making, 9394 magazine has launched and takes young creatives by storm…

My love for the House of Vans increases with every visit. An urban creative space tucked away within the arches of Station Approach Road which provides the community with a place filled with inspiration, galleries, workshops and skateparks.

Amongst it’s endless list of events I found the 9394 magazine launch. A free event open to more than just high profile publishing personalities, an event open to everybody. The magazine is student run and provides a collection of fashion editorials, fashion films, production design and guest artwork.

On arrival at the event, I was impressed with the turn-out. A buzzing atmosphere filled with happy people of all backgrounds from students to high profile bloggers and editors. Cameras flashed, beer bottles clinked and Instagram’s were posted as everybody came together to celebrate the hard work that had gone into the production of issue one: Transcendence.

We moved through the different rooms at the venue from the indoor skatepark to the dance floor and ended up in the cinema room to watch the 4 short fashion films produced and edited by young creatives. Sitting cross-legged on a cushion, made in the iconic Vans checkerboard print, the room fell silent as the first film began. The films were dark and captivating and revealed fantastic talent amongst the film makers behind the cameras.

On leaving the event, I purchased the magazine which comes A5 in size and had already taken it out of its plastic film as I left through the door. I flicked through before reading it thoroughly at home and was inspired by the great variety of content within the pages from photography to design to exclusive interviews – all oozing a great deal of ‘cool-factor.’

Without a doubt, 9394 is one of the best student publications to come out of London this year. With a great deal of professionalism shown in the first issue, i’m excited to see what the future holds for this creative brand.
