Back in July I decided to start taking a contraceptive pill, and a three months later, I couldn’t come off it quick enough
I used to take a combined pill to help improve my skin when I was in the first year of college however it didn’t help much and caused me more grief as I felt I was constantly bleeding! I decided to stop taking it after 6 months.
A couple of years later, I decided that I should probably try a different pill as a contraceptive and after hearing that there are so many different types of pill and each one isn’t suited to every woman, I decided to go back to the doctors and find out if there was one more appropriate for me. I was reluctant after how it affected me last time however I just went with it.
For once I had a really good chat with the doctor and she decided to put me on the Desogestrel pill. She gave me a batch of pills to last me three months and I came away feeling more educated and a little more positive.
For the first month and half I felt relatively normal however for the past month and a half, I’ve felt, at times, SHIT. I did put half of my feelings down to the stress (and financial stress) of moving back to London and starting uni and a new job however I stopped taking it about 10 days later and have felt a load better.
My skin was bad, I felt myself being moody, irritated and emotional often – I could cry on the bus at the drop of a hat. I’ve decided this pill isn’t for me and yet again I need to find a new form of contraception to use – I’m not 100% sure if the pill was a main cause of how I’ve been feeling since moving back to London however I would appreciate any recommendations or comments.
Onto the skincare, since coming off the pill I’ve wanted to rejuvenate my skin and just like that my love for, ‘The Ordinary’ was born…
I went into The Ordinary in Covent Garden and spoke to one of the sales assistants about exactly want I wanted to add to my skincare routine and she was SO HELPFUL. I decided to cut right back on my skincare and use simplified but effective products. I have read about the hype with The Ordinary products (and their insane value for money) and I’m so glad I got my hands on a few of their products. A few things I’d had my eye on online were out of stock but I did get…
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
I use this product in the morning before my moisturiser and makeup. It is a high strength vitamin and mineral blemish formula. It feels weightless on the skin. It works to reduce the appearance of blemishes and reduce congestion.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
I love the warming smell of this product and I use it in the evening before bed and before a thin layer of moisturiser. It is described as a high-strength lactic peeling formulation. As an Alpha Hydroxyl, it gently exfoliates the skin, gentle enough to use daily. It works to reduce inflammation and irritation – something my skin definitely suffers with as a consequence of stress and leading a busy life.
The Ordinary Natural Moisurising Factors + HA
I’ve been applying a thin layer of this moisturiser to my skin every morning and evening and I’ve been really enjoying the effects. I’ve used so many different types of moisturisers and one thing I can’t stand is that greasy feeling you get about half an hour later on your skin. Thank GOD, this product doesn’t do this. It’s oil and silicone free It’s elements keep the outer layer of your skin hydrated and is made up of 11 amino acids too!
The Ordinary Serum Foundation
Because everything was so reasonably priced, I decided to pick up one of their foundations too, I usually wear BB creams however these types of products weren’t covering my stressed out skin enough so I decided to go with the foundation they offer that is less heavy, the serum-foundation, as I don’t like the ‘caked’ look some foundations give.
I’ve been LOVING this foundation and I’m not surprised everyone raves about it. It is so lightweight and glides onto your skin so easily and provides a medium coverage however is easily buildable. It usually lasts all day and requires pretty much no touching-up throughout the day. It also is SPF 15!
There’s still a few more products I want to try such as their toner, however it’s sold out EverYwHEre at the moment! Hoping I continue to be impressed by these products from such a cool brand. I absolutely love that every product is less that £10 and yet so effective, they’re also all vegan and cruelty free.
I’m thinking about writing up my full current skincare routine?
